Citizens Bank N.A. plans to relocate its Transit Road retail branch this year from one side of the street to the other.
The No. 5 largest bank in Western New York will switch this spring from a single stand-alone building at 6545 Transit Road in Clarence to a smaller office in a newly constructed retail center at 9430 Transit Road in East Amherst. Customers have been notified of the move, which is set to happen in May, a spokesperson said.
Citizens currently leases the existing branch at 6545 Transit Road, a nearly 5,300-square-foot facility that’s one of two branches currently for sale on that stretch of Transit Road. A former HSBC Bank USA N.A. branch at 6525 Transit Road is also listed for sale.
The new space is about 2,200 square feet and includes a drive-up ATM, developer Jonathan Bevilaqua said. The bank signed the lease about six months ago and construction of the interior is set to begin in the next 15 days, he said.
Citizens holds about 3.8 percent of the deposit market share in Western New York. Based in Rhode Island, it operates about 40 local branches, including several that are based in Tops Friendly Markets stores.
