Amherst IDA approves tax breaks for Bevilacqua project

Construction is expected to start this winter on a building aimed at replacing a Main Street eyesore that straddles both the Village of Williamsville and Town of Amherst.

One of the final hurdles was crossed Friday morning when the Amherst Industrial Development Agency’s directors approved a series of tax breaks to 5933 Main Street LLC, an affiliate of Bevilacqua & Associates, that will help finance the $9.15 million project.

Luxury apartment and retail project gets tax breaks from Amherst IDA

A project to convert a vacant Main Street building into high-end apartments and retail space is getting nearly $930,000 in tax breaks from the Amherst Industrial Development Agency.

The $9.2 million project will demolish the existing building at 5927-5951 Main St. and construct a three-story building, covering 56,000 square feet of space, that will include first-floor retail space and 20 upscale apartments on the second and third floors.

Bevilacqua proposes three-story Main Street building in Amherst

Plans have emerged for what has long been considered an eyesore on a Main Street corner that borders both the Village of Williamsville and Town of Amherst into what could be a development showcase.

Bevilacqua & Associates hopes to begin work early next year on a project that will transform a largely vacant retail complex into a sleek, three-story building that will include 20 market-rate apartments and first floor retail or commercial space. Located at the corner of Main and Hirschfield streets, the project is directly across from Williamsville South High School.

A medical office building will be added to all the new development going up along Sweet Home Road, near the University at Buffalo.

The Amherst Town Board last week rezoned a one-acre parcel at 1306 Sweet Home Road, just south of Rensch Road, to general business for the development of a 5,000-square-foot single-story medical office building being proposed by Bevilacqua Development.
